Trainers : Randy Durand

Originally from outside Toronto Canada, and growing up on the East Coast in New Jersey, Randy successfully competed as a child in the Pony Hunter and Pony Equitation divisions under the instruction of John P. McGinty, Jr. Randy's earliest accomplishments included guiding his wonderful pony, Farnely High Road, to be 5th in the nation.

During Randy's junior years, he sought out the expertise of two highly-respected trainers, Gary Kunsman at Four Seasons Farm in Flemington N.J. and Sharon Cole at Tewksbury Farm. He competed in the Junior Hunters, Junior Jumpers and all of the Medal Equitation classes. Randy eventually found himself competing in the equitation divisions at Harrisburg, Washington International, and Madison Square Garden in New York City.

At the end of his junior career, Randy attended school while also maintaining jobs with some of the most well-known trainers in the hunter/jumper industry - Allen Smith, Kate Monahan Prudent, Michael Matz and Paul Harnet just to name a few! Whether working as a groom, stall mucker, or braider, Randy did everything he could to become a better horseman and advance his riding and teaching skills.

In 1982, Randy made his big move to the West Coast. After one year riding for Summerwind Farm in Chatsworth, California, he accepted another position at Anne Kouri Stables (also in Chatsworth) where he not only continued as a rider, but also moved into a challenging teaching role. A couple of years later, Randy decided to partner with Barbara Vasillaros Parsons. For many years, Randy and Barbara ran a very successful business where they trained many young riders and horses. They taught some very accomplished riders, including Catherine Jacob, who competed in the ASPCA Maclay Finals at Madison Square Garden. 1990 and 1991, Randy and Barbara were honored as the Tri-Valley Trainers of the Year .

Randy later decided it was the perfect time to use his knowledge gained from his experiences on both coasts to establish his own business, New Haven Farm. Now located in Lake View Terrace at Middle Ranch, Randy and the New Haven staff continue to focus on successfully training horses and riders in the pony, hunter, jumper and equitation divisions. Many New Haven students have qualified and competed on the East Coast at all of the major finals, including Alex Swope, Kelly Silic, Lisa Ciesniewski, Elizabeth Mamam, Emily Conner and Olivia Esse.

Randy has undoubtedly proved his ability to train champions. His understanding and enthusiasm for his students, horses and the sport is evident from the very first time you meet him. From beginning to advanced, ponies or horses, Randy has the ideal training program to help you achieve your potential.
